Day one.

Day one.

I heard something the other day for the first time that really made me take notice, while scrolling through Tik Tok, the familiar face of Will Mellor popped on the screen and instead of swiping up, I decided to watch and I’m so glad I did. “One day, or day one” was the question he asked, at least it first felt like a question, but as he continued, I realised it was actually a motivational piece. Everybody says “yeah, one day I’m going to do that” what he was suggesting was, why not turn those words around and make this the day you begin that challenge. Now as much as I admire Will Mellor and think he’s a cool guy, there is no way that advice came from his head. After a quick on-line search, Dwayne “the rock” Johnstone popped up, doing the same video, what! no way it came from him either, great guy, but this is a piece of serious philosophy. Thankfully after a bit more research, I came upon the original author, a guy called Paulo Coelho, an author from Brazil, not wishing to be rude about Will or Dwayne, but he sounds a bit more credible.

In the end though, it doesn’t matter where the quote came from or who spreads it’s wisdom, what is important is that we all take notice. If I’d have heard this sooner, I may have started my journey to fittie level a lot earlier. I’m not going to analyse, or try to explain it any further, I feel my work is done just helping pass it along. How many times though have you promised to do something and have full intentions of seeing it through, but for many reasons, never happens. I’m as guilty of this as much as anyone and it doesn’t have to just refer to fitness, it can actually be anything. I told my sons, years ago that we’d go to Ireland for a road trip, just the three of us, 15 years later, they’re still waiting. I’ve used my hip problem as the reason for not going, if you search hard enough there’s always something you can use as an excuse, I have however put this right and it’s number 3 on my bucket list. I’ve even set a date, March 2026. Okay, that may be a while away, but it’s my 60th that year and no matter what happens, whether I’ve had my hips fixed by then or not, we’re off. They aren’t happy it’s so far away, but they know that because I’ve said it and made the commitment, it’s happening.

Writing this blog was exactly the same, by making an announcement, there can be no going back, mostly because I’d look a tit and no one will ever believe a word I said again if I didn’t go through with it. Announcing something to the world is a huge step to take and it’s not for everyone, but it helped give me the push I needed. I lost the weight before lockdown and have hid behind the “L” word as an excuse for putting it back on, this time, that’s not happening, I will reach fittie and stay there. So if you’re reading this and there’s something you’ve been putting off, you need to get started, make this the beginning of that journey, no more excuses, go for it right now, well, I say now, maybe leave it till tomorrow, after all it’s Sunday, get the weekend over with first.

I’m Keith

Welcome to my blog. I’m on a mission to lose weight in order to have a much needed operation, that will hopefully help me regain the gift of mobility. As the title suggests, I also plan to become a fittie, though that might require some plastic surgery. Like the whole population of the world, things have been a bit shit since 2020 and eating all those sausage rolls during lockdown didn’t help. If you want the full story, then read the about page, but if I were you, I’d just crack on with my hopefully humorous anecdotes about life as a fat disabled guy.
