Getting old is something we hope will happen to us, though not everyone is fortunate enough to experience it. I’m sure if given the choice, all the young men who died on the beaches at Normandy would have swapped their short lives for one of fulfilment, even if it meant being a bit crap in later life. I popped to see my mother today, she’s in her 80’s and needed a few gardening jobs doing. As I was finishing, she asked if I’d put some solar lights up, the problem was the instructions weren’t clear about how to switch them on. I tried covering the panel with my hands to see if they lit up, but it didn’t work, I explained that it may need a couple of hours in the sunlight to charge, then I would know if they worked or not. I then said that I’d put them in place and would she call me tomorrow, “How would I know”? came the reply, I told that when it get’s dark, she’ll be able to see. “That’s no good for me, I go to bed at half six”……….. !
