I keep banging on about humour and how important it is to mental health, to be able to laugh at events, no matter how annoying or sad they can be, is vital to our ability in moving forward, as a shark needs to keep swimming, we need to keep smiling. Some people though can lose that humour when it’s aimed at them, or something they love, nothing shows this more than football.
I’m sure you’re aware that the Euro’s are on and that Scotland didn’t do too well in the opening game, for the record, I love Scotland, it’s a beautiful country and despite the fact they hate the English, I have never experienced rudeness while there. That said, this is football and so clearly there is banter to be had, I actually backed the useless Jocks to win, so I feel let down as well. The opening moments to the game were very emotional, the passion as the crowd belted out the anthem was electric, if you don’t know, the Scottish people adopted a song written in the 60’s as their national call to arms, it’s basically about them stuffing the English in some shitty battle in 1314. I do actually love the song and desperately want us to have something similar that we could play at sporting events. However, it does give rise to making some subtle changes when things don’t go to plan and that’s what I’ve done, so far only one verse, if thing’s don’t improve, then I’m defiantly doing more, enjoy and remember, it’s only banter.
“Oh flower of Scotland, when will we see, you play again, it won’t be long till, you’re back home on the plane, it’s looking so grim, l’m feeling smarmy, you’ll soon be homeward, tae start again.”
