In the past I have been involved in many projects, here are some of the things I’ve written.
Books
A Roam’in York
This is the first book I wrote and is what made me become a tour guide. Before the internet, you had to do research in the library, which I enjoyed immensely. Basically, it’s a walking tour around the city of York, that takes the reader through the streets, explaining about the history and buildings with a bit of humour. It was first published through a small company, but for later editions I had set up my own.
Fulford, the 1st battle of 1066
I was working as a guide when I wrote this and it was done out of love. Totally different in style to the previous two and had no humour, it tells the story about the events of 1066 and York’s part in it. The least successful in terms of sales, but is the book that brought me the most work. Because of my extensive research I was asked to give many talks and presentations on the subject.
A walk in Whitby
This was my second book and definitely the most enjoyable. Unlike York I had no know knowledge of the place and had to do research on absolutely everything. discovering all the stories was a total joy and writing about them even better. Not only did I self publish but took care of all sales. This was the most successful of my book’s, selling over Three and a half thousand copies.
A walk in York
Technically, I didn’t actually write this, but it’s the book I’m most proud off. For 3 months I gave up an afternoon to work with a class of children to help them write a tour book of York. The whole experience was a total joy and I understand why people want to teach. When it was completed, they led their own tour, taking their parents around the city, reading from the book, Magical.
All the books are now sadly out of print, though York Library holds a copy of each, should someone actually wish to read my ramblings. They were all very enjoyable to write and research and I’d certainly like to think that one day I will re visit the York and Whitby guides, and update the Fulford battle book. Since its publication, far more facts and information has come to my attention that I would love to share.

Other projects
York Cat trail This was a leaflet I researched and wrote as a trail around the city of York, in search of it’s famous stone cats. It was purchased from me by the Cat Gallery, who have seen a very successful campaign in promoting their shop by handing them out to customers for free.
Copy writing for web-sites The number of sites I’ve written for is far too numerous to mention, but I’ve helped many business’s see their idea come to light. I just talk about what it is they want, including pages and content and write the copy based on what the
Script writing It was my plan when I first started writing, to be involved with scripts for tv. I haven’t yet broken into that industry, but have written for many other projects including Radio, School plays, amateur dramatic groups, company video’s, and tourism films.
Speech writing Many years ago, I had a small business called “Something borrowed, nothing Blue” where I wrote wedding speeches for the best man, Groom and Father of the bride. It was hard work but very enjoyable, now and again I still get asked to help.
